I've been seeing a bunch of memes about the transition from September to October today, so this seems like a good choice to start out the month. Debbie wears this white dress during her early days with the Addamses, while she's winning them over with her sweet-as-pie persona. She subtly projects efficiency by suggesting an old-fashioned nurse's uniform--perhaps also with just a touch of nautical style with the buttons and the hint of a sailor collar.

Addams Family Values will be released on 4K Ultra HD + Digital on October 29 via Paramount. The 1993 film is a sequel to 1991's The Addams Family, based on Charles Addams’ cartoon and the 1960s sitcom.

Barry Sonnenfeld (The Addams Family, Men in Black) directs from a script by Paul Rudnick (Sister Act). Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Joan Cusack, Christina Ricci, Jimmy Workman, Carol Kane, and Carel Struycken star.

It's love at first fright when Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Huston) welcome a new addition to the Addams household -- Pubert, their soft, cuddly, mustachioed baby boy. As Fester (Christopher Lloyd) falls hard for voluptuous nanny Debbie Jilinksy (Joan Cusack), Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) discover she's a black-widow murderess who plans to add Fester to her collection of dead husbands. The family's future grows even bleaker when the no-good nanny marries Fester and has the kids shipped off to summer camp. But Wednesday still has a Thing or two up her sleeve…

For an outfit that only appears onscreen for a few seconds, this one has a surprising amount of subtle detail. It's a bit over the top, but it's that kind of movie and Debbie is that kind of character. And it is very orange. Maybe it's a sly joke because Fester likes to call her Pumpkin.

Trivia: Costumes for Addams Family Values were designed by Theoni V. Aldredge, who was also the designer for Ghostbusters, my last entry!

The dress has a soft orange-and-yellow ombre effect which is echoed on the sleeves of the jacket and the flower on the hat. There's an unusual diagonal seam down the front of the dress that doesn't seem to be a practical closure, so I guess it's just a design element? The soft, flowy jacket has watercolory designs in white and green and appears to have shoulderpads. The touch of white in the jacket is picked up by the belt, hose, and shoes, while the gold necklace echoes the belt buckle.

I, um ... (looks around nervously) ... I'd wear this. Maybe not the hat. But the rest of it. Okay, maybe just the jacket. But I'd so wear the jacket.
